A Pilgrim is Grateful

Photo

Monday April 28, Day 7, Puenta La Reina to Estella, 22 km

The rain held off today, and there was a fine mist blowing on us, keeping us cool, especially as we climbed the hills. The theme for the day was gratitude, so here is my list.

A pilgrim is grateful for
*others with wifi - thanks to David, who took our picture and posted it on Facebook, and friended me so I could use it here. It was taken on the bridge before Lorca
*others who offer to trade bunks so we more mature women can be on the bottom
* chivalrous men who buy us cafe con leche
* banana bread muffin tops, which I brought with me and am still snacking on. Here is the recipe link
http://ohsheglows.com/2014/01/17/banana-bread-muffin-tops/
* a clean dry towel for the shower
* socks which are clean and dry in the morning
* new pilgrim friends to walk the last 2 km with and carry us along
* shouts of Hey Toronto, Yo Canadians, and Darling as greetings on the trail
* Dave Debbie and Mark, our very entertaining dinner companions last night
* the beauty of the countryside- wind rippling the wheat fields - Roman roads that have lasted 2000 years-sun on the white cliffs - purple iris and purple butterflies
* the strength to walk and enjoy this marvellous experience
* a company that ships your bags when you need a rest to recover
* hostel workers who take the time to find you a bed
* cafe con leche to start the day
* blister free feet
* This pilgrim is also grateful for friends who comment. I love to share!

Buen Camino

  1. Such a lovely photo! Everything looks so green!!! We still haven't quite got there yet. Glad to hear the rain is holding off. For me, there is nothing quite like walking in a nice fine mist. Thanks so much for blogging. Buen Camino and hugs.

  3. Ah Yes, Gratitude. It starts with attitude.
I loved the Church of the Ascension in Los Arcos. Easy quiz ?: When did the muslims leave Los Arcos? A: 814, B: 914, C: 1014.
Bonus question: Why did they leave?
Double Bonus question: When did the local market start in Los Arcos, in post Muslim time under Sancho el Sabio. Ask the vendors.

  4. Hi Grandma,
Did you know that the picture that you put on your blog actually looks like Hogwarts? What is the inside of the monastery like? Did you stay there?
Bye grandma, Keep up that good spirit.

    1. I can see why you thought it looks like Hogwarts - it was probably build at the same time. Yes, we stayed there, but it is very modern inside. Mostly I am sleeping on the top of bunk beds! Thanks for your good wishes. Love to you and your family.

  5. Darlene, so good to see you and Wendy looking so relaxed and happy. Hope you can post more as you go along. There is so much to be thankful for, and it sounds as if the world is treating you well along the Camino. I loved reading about the sights as you walked; wish I could have seen those poppies.

    Stay well,
    Marsha

    1. Today, May 1 was a challenge - we got the last beds - 90 in the room!
Happy to stir up your memories.

  6. You spread gratitude around. Instead of being jealous of you, you inspire your readers to be grateful for all the blessings - big and small - that we enjoy every day. You are very sophisticated with the technology. How on earth did you have ready access to your recipes? We are expecting a deluge in Toronto today. Monday walk was great. We all miss you and Wendy.

    1. I knew where I adapted the recipe from - it is a great canadian food blog - it matches my tastes. Oh She Glows! At least the technology is working today.

  7. Your blog is my go to email for inspiration for the day. I'm off to compile my grateful list. We walked the Taylor Creek ravine yesterday and spent 1/2 entertained by the ducks. Grateful to you for keeping us all up to date with your journey and your indefatigable good cheer.
